Volunteer Opportunities

Whether or not you have a University connection, you are invited to join the URVC volunteer center and become an active volunteer for the University or the surrounding community.

The Volunteer Center acts as a referral service for organizations seeking volunteers and for volunteers of all ages seeking meaningful and rewarding experiences. As a volunteer, you select the activities that appeal to you and fit your schedule—either a one-time event or a continuing commitment.

Volunteer choices include campus programs, special events, research projects, and community activities. Additional opportunities are available as requests for volunteer assistance are received. The duration of most projects is usually four hours in any one day. Except for weekly tutoring activities, most projects are limited to a single day. No minimum commitment is required of volunteers.

New Opportunities – Winter 2014:

  1. Ushers for Ted Mann Hall Concerts
  2. Red Cross Greeters & Canteen Service: Blood Donor Centers & Bloodmobiles
  3. Food for Young Minds: After school pantry
  4. Tutoring & Mentoring: all ages, including adults
  5. Special Olympics: Referees & coaches
  6. Hospital volunteer services
  7. Museums: variety of assistance activities
  8. Audio-record Books for the Blind

URVC Volunteer Comment

For five years I've been a volunteer mentor in the URVC Partners In English (PIE) program. Through PIE, I've met with more than a dozen graduate students looking for the opportunity to improve their English language skills in one-to-one meetings with a native English language speaker. Sometimes we practice pronunciation, reading, and writing, but usually we just converse about our lives, our countries, and our interests. My reward has been far greater than my time spent because I've met such interesting, intelligent scholars from around the world. - Barbara, URVC volunteer
